It's not all about the beach, but for a coastal holiday, the beach is important. Being based in La Herradura there are a number of options open to you. The first is the long town beach right in front of you. In winter this offers a delightful place to stroll and watch the fishermen and in summer it is the place everyone wants to be. However, it is never too crowded that you can't easily find your favourite spot just a metre or two from the lapping water's edge.
If you fancy a change of scenery then a short drive around the headland will bring you to the rather smart marina and the beach Los Berengueles. This has a similar arc shape but faces south east. The advantage of this option is that if the weather is a bit breezy in la herradura then this beach is sheltered, and vice versa.
La Herradura is situated on the edge of the Natural Park of Cerro Gordo, which means that this section of the coastline is totally proteced from development. There are a number of coves that can be reached for you to enjoy a more natural environment. There may be a bar or a restaurant, but some of these bays have nothing at all and you can enjoy a truly unspoilt location. Many of these beaches permit nude bathing, but it is by no means compulsory - the choice is yours.
One of the great aspects of the beaches on the Costa Tropical are the Chiringuitos, or beach restaurants. Sometimes little more than a shack, others presenting themsleves as the most sophisticated of locations, it is always a pleasure to enjoy a drink or a meal served on the beach itself with nothing between you and the sea.
